What we do

Services

Thirty services across intellectual property and corporate law, handled in-house from Mexico City.

Step 1

Trademarks · Before filing

Search your trademark

Before filing, you need to know whether your mark has a real chance of being granted. We search the IMPI register and tell you if it can proceed as is.

Step 2

Trademarks · National filing

Register your trademark

We file before IMPI and handle the whole prosecution — classification, monitoring and responses — until you hold exclusive rights in Mexico.

Step 3

Trademarks · Maintenance

Declaration of actual use

Three years after the grant IMPI requires proof of use. If it is not filed on time the registration is cancelled. We track the deadline for you.

Trademarks

Trademark registration (IMPI)

We file your mark before IMPI with the correct Nice classification and handle prosecution end to end, from the application to the registration certificate.

Trademarks

International trademark registration

Your mark is only protected where it is registered. We coordinate Madrid Protocol designations and direct national filings from your Mexican base.

Trademarks

Trademark renewal

A registration lasts ten years and then it must be renewed or it lapses. We file within the statutory window and remind you well in advance.

Trademarks

Declaration of actual use

Mandatory within three months of the third anniversary of the grant. Missing it cancels the registration. We track the deadline and prepare the evidence.

Trademarks

Trademark watch

Would you know if someone filed a mark similar to yours? We monitor the IMPI Gazette and alert you in time to oppose.

Trademarks

Brand protection online

If someone is selling under your name on Instagram, TikTok, Amazon or Mercado Libre, we file the takedowns and follow them through.

Trademarks

Licensing and franchising

Your mark can generate revenue beyond your own operation. We structure licence and franchise agreements with the registrations that support them.

Copyright

Copyright registration (Indautor)

Copyright arises on creation, but registration is the proof of authorship and date you need in a dispute. We register text, music, art, audiovisual and software.

Copyright

Software copyright registration

Your source code is protected by copyright, not by patent. We register programs and their documentation before Indautor.

Copyright

Assignment and licence agreements

Who legally owns the content you create or commission? We draft and review the agreements that answer that in writing.

Copyright

Work-for-hire agreements

If an employee or freelancer creates content for your company, the rights are not automatically yours. A clear clause avoids the argument.

Copyright

Derivative works and compilations

Translations, adaptations and compilations are protectable in their own right. We register them and clarify the underlying rights.

Copyright

Reservation of rights

For characters, publication titles and promotional names, Mexican law offers a separate registration before Indautor.

Copyright

Digital takedowns

Content of yours being used without authorisation on platforms. We handle notices, escalation and follow-up.

Patents and designs

Patents and utility models

A technical development can become an exclusive commercial asset. We assess patentability and file before IMPI.

Patents and designs

Industrial designs

The shape, pattern or ornamentation of a product can be protected independently of its function.

Patents and designs

Trade secrets and NDAs

Not everything valuable is registrable. Know-how and confidential information are protected by contract and by internal controls.

Corporate

Company incorporation

We help you choose the right corporate form and incorporate it, with the intellectual property assigned to the company from day one.

Corporate

Amendments and liquidation

Capital increases, changes of shareholders, statutory amendments, dissolution and orderly liquidation.

Corporate

Contract drafting and review

A badly drafted contract can cost you your brand or your creations. We draft and review with IP ownership on the table.

Corporate

Corporate records management

Could you prove today who has authority to sign for your company? We keep the corporate book and powers of attorney in order.

Corporate

Compliance

A company without a compliance programme also answers for the acts of its people. We design and implement one to your size.

Other

Personal data protection (LFPDPPP)

If you collect client or employee data you need a privacy notice and internal procedures that actually work.

Other

Legal support for startups

Cap table, shareholder agreements, vesting and IP assignment. The things investors check before they wire.

Other

IP portfolio audit

Do you know exactly which IP assets your company holds and whether they are properly protected and in your name?

Other

Intangible asset valuation

How much is your brand or your patent actually worth? Needed to raise capital, license technology or sell.

Other

Litigation and border measures

When someone uses your mark without authorisation, every day counts. Infringement actions and customs seizure of counterfeit goods.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to register a trademark in Mexico?

Our fee is USD 500 plus VAT per mark and per class, and it includes the official IMPI fees. If you need protection in more than one Nice class, one application is filed per class.

How long does registration take?

Four to six months when there are no refusals or oppositions. We deliver the availability opinion in the first week and file within two weeks.

Do I need a Mexican company to own a trademark here?

No. Foreign individuals and companies can own Mexican trademarks. You do need a local address for service, which we provide, and a power of attorney.

What if IMPI refuses my application?

IMPI issues an office action stating the ground, usually likelihood of confusion or lack of distinctiveness. We analyse it and file a reasoned response.

Does the availability search guarantee registration?

No search is an absolute guarantee, but it materially reduces the risk by identifying identical or similar marks before you file and lose the official fee.

What is the declaration of actual use?

A mandatory filing proving the mark is in use, due within the three months following the third anniversary of the grant. Missing it cancels the registration.

Does a Mexican registration protect me in other countries?

No. It covers Mexico only. For other jurisdictions we coordinate national filings or a Madrid Protocol application.

Do you work with clients outside Mexico City?

Yes. We work remotely with clients across Mexico and abroad; IMPI prosecution is handled online.
